CareMatch- Proud to support Professional Care Workers' Day

Created by The National Association of Care & Support Workers (NACAS), CareMatch are proud to support Professional Care Workers’ Day on Wednesday 4th September.

NACAS was founded in 2016, and all members are individuals employed in professional care and support in the social care sector.

You can find out more about NACAS here: https://nacas.org.uk/about.html

CareMatch pride themselves in doing care differently. Each client is part of a specific Care Hub created just for them. This hub consists of the client (where possible), the client’s family, the local authority and their specific team of 3-4 carers.

All of the carers in each specific hub work extremely hard at being part of an effective and supportive team- examples of this include covering shifts if required and offering a lot of support during the period of heavy snow that we had, when it was often difficult to get to clients.

Being a self-employed carer can be a daunting prospect, but CareMatch are extremely supportive, which is reflected in the excellent relationship that the carers have with each other and their clients.

Nominated in 2018 for an award at the Great British Care Awards- South West Awards, we are extremely proud of Jerry Spary, one of our CareMatch carers. He started his career as a trained chef in 1998. Shortly after he opened a catering company, which he ran until 2017 when he sold the business.

Although Jerry’s background is not in care, he has always had an interest in care, motivated by his 3 disabled children. He now divides his time between teaching martial arts on a professional basis, teaching both adults and children, and working in care locally. He chose to work in Lambourn because it’s a village he is familiar with and he is well known in the community.

He has a special bond with one particular client, ex-jockey Tyrone Williams, who had a major stroke in 2016. Told he would never be able to walk again, Jerry entered Tyrone’s life and forged a relationship which is an on-going success, and in 2018 Tyrone was able to walk 32 metres unaided, which is an amazing achievement as he was told he would never be able to walk again.

In fact, his progress has developed so much that he is pretty much the face of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and has been professionally filmed by an equestrian company AND in May 2019 he qualified at the RDA at the regional qualifiers at The Wellington Riding School.

Jerry enjoys working on a self-employed basis and feels that personal ownership is vital to its success.

“Carematch have shown great flexibility and allowed me to work out of the box to improve the lives of those I support.” Jerry Spary

As we look towards celebrating our 2nd birthday in the coming months, CareMatch are so proud of all their carers- they daily go above and beyond to provide first-class care to their clients, and they are truly valued and appreciated.
